Company and Product
Located in McKinney, Texas, Slap-on, Inc. is newly formed, well financed company that has a current focus of marketing a single product, the "Slap-on", through retail outlets. The Slap-on is an attachment designed to fit on the side of a waste receptacle with the purpose of securing a can liner to the inside of the container so that the container can be easily set on its side for leaves or other debris to be raked or swept directly into a bag.
Origination of Tag Line, "Leaves Bagged in Minutes, Not Hours"
The tag line, "Leaves bagged in minutes, not hours", arose from the creator's experience using the product. The creator, thinking that he might need leaves to shoot a video and that the Fall season was soon going to end, decided to go to a local recreation center to bag leaves in the event that he might soon need to use them. Well, he went a little overboard and gathered more leaves than could ever be needed to shoot a video. Not wanting his effort to go to waste, he decided to put the product to the test and time how long it took to bag the leaves. After a mere 30 minutes, the job was finished, with the end result being 18 fifty-five gallon bags filled sitting upright before him. As evidence to the amount of leaves 18 fifty-five gallon bags really is, the bagged leaves, when sitting in the bed of a pickup, rose above its cab. Imagine being able to shovel or rake leaves into a wide open bag rather than having to pick them up. That's where considerable time savings arose along with being able to easily compact the leaves inside of the bag.
Company and Name
Origination
The product and company's name, Slap-on, originated from the primary activity necessary to have the device engage the receptacle. All one has to do is pick up the device and literally slap it over the receptacle wall. Disengaging the attachment is just as easy. Just pull up on the device and it detaches from the receptacle's side, leaving both the bag and leaves undisturbed.
Understanding how the Slap-on Attachment Works
It is best to first describe the problem and then to describe how the Slap-on attachment provides a solution.
Large pockets of air are created between the bag and the inner wall of the waste container when a bag is inserted in the container. These air pockets can be so large that nearly the entire opening of the container can be shut off. This can be seen in the first two pictures above, one with the container standing upright and the other with the container set on its side.
Tightening the bag around the lip of the container creates a ballooning effect, so the bag needs to remain loose so that the air can escape. But, a loosely held bag will collapse toward the back of the container as air is released from the air pockets at the moment debris are raked in.
The Slap-on attachment solution is simple. The longer prongs, when inserted in the container, hold the bag up and secure the bag back to the base of the container. It secures the bag to the top of the container so that when the container is tipped on its opposite side, the bag is then pinned on the upper and lower opening of the container, leaving the sides loose so that air can escape. This attribute is shown in the third picture above. With the bag flush on all inside walls of the container, debris can be forcibly raked in with the bag held securely. When the container is nearly full, a rake or other tool can be used as a lid to secure the opening when the container is set upright. This allows a 55+ gallon bag to be filled in about 20 seconds without having to touch the debris or having to shovel it, making the increased productivity obvious.
